Beludj

These typical but still highly varied village rugs are knotted by Persian women working in their homes in and around the city of Herat in the west of Afghanistan. The centre frequently features something called a "Mihrab" (prayer niche), and no two rugs are exactly alike. In spite of its outstanding value for money, this style of rug is still an expression of genuine folk art.
